Our Goal: The NSRC Building Fund aims to raise $1.2 million.

This is a big target, but we owe it to our future generations.

History

North Shore Rowing Club was first established in Devonport back in 1874, with the construction of a small shed on King Edward Parade. The club achieved early success there. In the 1970s, activities moved to the edges of Lake Pupuke, near Smale’s quarry. The lakeside venue offered access to water which wasn’t as affected by weather and led to an uplift in success for North Shore Rowing through the 1980s and 1990s.

The continuation of this success for the club was aided with club activities expanding to the upper harbour area, allowing longer distance training on calm water. For many years North Shore Rowing has operated out of an old storage shed at Greenhithe, which needs replacing.

Our ‘why’

Throughout its history, the club has thrived when it has modernised its facilities and equipment. This is why we have created the NSRC Building Fund. Our aim is to replace the existing facility at the Greenhithe Upper Harbour site, to continue to build our club’s legacy.

“Building this new shed is not just an act of construction – it's an investment in enriching the club's legacy. Your support helps the club create more than just a physical space; it enables it to offer a richer experience for future athletes, attract greater talent, and expand the incredible community that so many of us hold dear.”

Michael Brake, NSRC Vice President

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the NSRC community to come together and create a facility to serve the next generations of rowers in blue.”

Ian Mason, NSRC Sponsorship Officer

 FAQs

  • North Shore Rowing Club serves an area much larger than just the North Shore. The entire North Harbour Region, including the areas of Rodney, the Hibiscus Coast and the North Shore are served by the club. Many schools based in the wider North Harbour Region also make use of the club’s facilities to provide access to rowing. The North Harbour Rowing Centre will truly be a regional facility and a centre of excellence for rowing across the entire North Harbour region.

This new building will create a larger space for the club’s operations, enabling us to house more boats and increase the number of members we are able to support. A modern facility will enable an environment that is safer for our members.

  • The North Harbour Rowing Centre will be located in Greenhithe on the site of North Shore Rowing Club’s existing shed. Although the new North Harbour Rowing Centre has a near identical footprint to the existing shed, it will have a second level, providing additional space for both boat storage and training facilities.

  • The NSRC Building Fund has been set up specifically to fund the construction of the new rowing centre.
