Meet the New President! - Mat Jensen
Q + A
When did you first become a member of North Shore Rowing Club?
2010, I was convinced to join by Barrie [Mabbott] and Jeremy [Jones] and help coach the novices. Spent the season at the lake and had great fun with the group of rowers I had that first season.
Was there a defining moment in your rowing career?
There’s been lots of great results and moments but for me there’s two stand outs - the first fish that Jeremy Jones caught at Whakamaru camp. That’s when I realised we could do anything. In a similar vein, it was when we first got to the top of the mountain behind farmer Tony’s.
What has motivated you to keep giving back to the sport across so many levels?
I enjoy learning and working through challenges. The sport is still largely volunteer run so there’s always something you can do that feels rewarding and helpful to others.
How do you see your role as the president of the club?
I don’t fully know yet really! Right now I’m quite hands on to get things done, but really to make sure the right stuff is happening within the club and to make sure the wider North Shore family are all getting along with each other!
